Let the SON Shine!

Our Center opened its door for ministry to the members of First Baptist and the Clayton community on June 1, 2006. We offer full-time and part time care year-round for children ages 6 weeks - 4 years of age. We use the WEE Learn Christian curriculum which includes Bible Stories, songs, and scripture as well as age-appropriate and developmentally-appropriate activities based on weekly themes.

Our Mission and Goals

First Baptist Church of Clayton Child Development Center is an extension of the First Baptist Church of Clayton and as such, is seen as a ministry of the church. We believe each child is a unique gift from God. Therefore our approach involves meeting the individual needs of the whole child and recognizing that each child develops at his or her own pace. At First Baptist Child Development Center we seek to nurture children with the love of Jesus Christ and create for them a Christ-centered educational environment where each child can learn and grow.

To accomplish this mission, we have set forth these goals:

1. Help children grow in awareness of and experience God's love for them through loving relationships with adults and other children.

2. Strengthen Christian values and faith through modeling, Bible stories, prayer, and Scripture thoughts.

3. Encourage children to feel good about themselves and help them to develop a healthy self esteem.

4. Assist children in the growth of trust, independence, confidence and initiative.

5. Demonstrate that school and church are safe, happy environments.

6. Lead children in the exploration of the world around them discovering science, nature, weather, the passing of seasons, space, animals, and more.

7. Stimulate the development of small muscle groups through art, puzzles, blocks, computers, and other learning activities.

8. Stimulate the development of large muscle groups through movement activities both indoors and outdoors.

9. Facilitate the enjoyment of creative expression through music and rhythm, arts and crafts, and role play.

10. Develop language skills through interaction with other children, teachers, and literature.

11. Prepare children to enter kindergarten.

Most importantly, it is our goal to be an open demonstration of God's love as we assist children and their families in any way we can.

Staff

As Christian teachers and directors we take seriously the trust that parents place in us to care for their children. Our staff are experienced early childhood educators. All of our teachers are chosen not only for their experience and education, but also for their loving and caring attitudes towards children. We recognize that children are gifts from God, who belong to Him, and who should be cared for as our own. Our staff is active in the North Carolina Baptist Church Weekday Association. They are required to receive a specific number of training hours per year, and earn CPR and First Aid certification.

Curriculum

The Center has planned an age-appropriate curriculum for children 6 weeks through 4 years old with the goal of creating a warm, loving, child-centered atmosphere based on the needs and interests of each age level.  The Center uses the WEE LEARN curriculum, which is published by the Southern Baptist Convention along with other supplemental materials.  The daily activities provide for the child*s social, emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual development.  Basic routines such as group time, organized free play, clean up, bathroom, meals, rest, and outdoor play are carried out each day to help the children develop a sense of regularity and security.  Each child will participate in a variety of activities such as art, writing, books, Bible stories, home living, blocks, puzzles and manipulatives, nature, and music.  The children will also learn to take turns, share, plan, work, and play with others as they are able to do so. On Wednesday the children attend Chapel.

As for me and my school we will serve the Lord.
