WMU

Women's Missionary Union (WMU) has been a vital program at Clayton First Baptist Church since the late 1800's.  A passion for missions has been the heart and soul of WMU as it challenges individuals to:

  1.  Live out the unconditional love of Jesus Christ by loving God and our neighbors.
  2.  Grow in an authentic relationship with Christ by involvement in mission ministry through learning, sharing, praying, doing, and giving.
  3.  Study Scripture that will produce a commitment to missions so bridges can be  built for the cause of Christ.

The goal of WMU is to follow the Great Commission of Jesus which says, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.  We are committed to missions in our local community and surrounding areas, in our state, our nation, and to the ends of the earth, wherever God calls and lead us to serve Him.  Jesus is our Savior, and we want to proclaim Him King of kings and Lord of lords so the whole world will know Him, His comfort, His peace, and His hope!

WMU – 2011-2012 THEME:  Unhindered

WATCHWORD

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off anything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out of us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you do not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3

PROJECT HELP

WMU began an initiative called Project Help in 1994-95 with the intent of identifying social and moral issues and educating churches to raise awareness of and provide practical approaches to meeting the needs and sharing the Gospel.  The project for this WMU year is:

 Human Exploitation

defined as: The unethical, selfish use of human beings for the satisfaction of personal desires and/or profitable advantage.   Each person, because they are designed and made by God, is a person of worth.  Everyone should be treated with love and respect.  Proverbs 31:8-9 says,  "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.  Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."

Our prayer is that, through Project Help, WMU will help open our eyes and hearts to the vast issues surrounding human exploitation.  May we become a voice for the destitute, the needy, and the poor who have no voice.
